This month we focus on a former resident of Westlawn, Alysia Mullins. Alysia and her family found housing stability when the Housing Authority offered her family an apartment at Westlawn in 2012. While living there, she focused on improving life for her family. She worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, and, with the support of a Housing Authority scholarship, she attended school to open doors for additional job opportunities. Resident Spotlight: Delicia Morris
Delicia Morris and her family (husband John and three boys) lived in Westlawn from 2010 until just a few weeks ago. They were one of the last families to be relocated in preparation for new housing to be built over the next several years. Ms. Morris has deep connections in the neighborhood, serving as vice president of the Westlawn Resident Council, president of the Housing Authority’s Resident Advisory Board, and as the lead Choice Neighborhood Case Manager working with relo


Resident Spotlight: Mickey Ward
Mickey Ward is a long-time resident of the Choice Neighborhood, having moved to Silver Spring Drive in the early 1970’s. He says he never expected to stay, but he did because he liked his neighbors too much. He has been watching the redevelopment of Westlawn across the street for the past several years and is excited about the many positive changes happening in the neighborhood.

Resident Spotlight: Brenden Ward
Brenden Ward is excited to see the new developments happening in the CNI neighborhood, including the new Froedtert & Medical College Learning Center at his school, Carmen High School of Science and Technology. During the grand opening of the Center, Brenden had the opportunity to present on the Information Technology (IT) programming of the center.

Resident Spotlight: Minnie Harmon
Community member Minnie Harmon, a mother to three wonderful sons, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren is proud to be a resident of the Choice Neighborhood area.
Though McGovern Park initially attracted her to the neighborhood, Minnie enjoys spending time with her neighbors, working in the community as part of the McGovern Park Neighborhood Association, and being involved at her church.

Resident Spotlight: Erica Lofton
Erica Lofton, 16, is the CEO and Founder of Girls in Action, Inc. The charity, created by Erica when she was just seven years old, promotes girl leadership.
Erica had the opportunity to introduce Vice President Joe Biden at the White House in 2015, and was recognized for building bridges between youth and law enforcement as part of her effort to increase community.

Resident Spotlight: Rose Sandrone
Rose Sandrone is a mother to two adult children and has lived in Havenwoods for more than 40 years. She is very active in community meetings and works closely with the Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation. This interest in community leadership and working to help others comes naturally, as Rose’s mother was active in the Peace Corps for years.

Michelle has been a resident of the area for nearly 30 years. Mom to four grown children, in recent years she has been promoted to grandma and loves spending time with her grandchildren. Michelle is a seamstress and has her own alterations business. She also runs a sewing academy for children and adults.

Resident Spotlight: Jackie Burrell
Jackie Burrell is president of the Westlawn Resident Council and a member of CNI’s Steering Committee and she loves her community. Jackie is a self-proclaimed “people person” who has a vision of unity and togetherness for the CNI neighborhood.
Jackie loves children. She has two biological daughters and has adopted four girls. When Jackie has free time, she spends it with her children or at church.
People like Jackie are exactly what make this community great and we are th
