THE PATH FORWARD
Thanks to an effort led by the City of Milwaukee and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the City and HACM a Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) Grant. Additionally, many public and private partners have committed to support making our vision a reality.

OUR VISION
We have a vision for transforming Westlawn and the surrounding neighborhood into an inclusive community of opportunity with quality housing, schools, businesses, services, and amenities where people CHOOSE to live, learn, work, shop and play.

STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS
Replace distressed public and assisted housing with high-quality, mixed-income housing that is well-managed and responsive to the needs of the surrounding neighborhood.​
Support positive outcomes for families who live in the target development and surrounding neighborhood, particularly outcomes related to residents' health, safety, employment, and education.
Provide neighborhood youth with a high-quality educational pathway from prenatal to college or career.
Use and build upon existing partnerships to transform the CNI neighborhood into a vibrant mixed-income, mixed-use community with amenities and assets that attract individuals and families.
TOGETHER, we can create Milwaukee's Choice Neighborhood - a community synonymous with good schools, efficient public transportation, competent municipal services, low crime, convenient and accessible retail, healthcare, work and entertainment options, and a healthy social, economic and racial diversity.
